Professional Experience
Luis Raul Gutierrez attended Amarillo College where he earned his associate’s degree in paralegal studies and was part of their honors program. He then transferred to West Texas A&M University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in applied arts and sciences with a focus in English and minor in psychology. During his time at West Texas A&M he worked as a paralegal for a criminal defense firm. After graduating from West Texas A&M, Mr. Gutierrez worked as an immigration paralegal focusing on family immigration for six years, in Amarillo, Texas and the Texas Rio Grande Valley.

After six years of being out of school, Mr. Gutierrez decided to pursue his dream of becoming an attorney, and in the Fall of 2021,he enrolled at Thurgood Marshall School of Law (“TMSL”) full-time. As a first-year law student, Mr. Gutierrez was the scholarship recipient for the Mexican American Bar Association of Houston and the Houston Hispanic Bar Association. As a second-year law student, Mr. Gutierrez worked as a part-time clerk at Padilla & Rodriguez, LLP focusing on civil litigation and personal injury matters. Mr. Gutierrez also received the Cali Excellence of the Future Award in Professional Responsibility and Appellate Litigation. Additionally, Mr. Gutierrez served as the Sergeant at Arms for the Christian Legal Society at TMSL and the Parliamentarian for the Hispanic Law Students Association. As a third-year law student, Mr. Gutierrez clerked for The Cochran Firm, PLLC in their litigation department and served as the President of the Christian Legal Society and Vice President for the Hispanic Law Students Association. As a way to give back to the immigrant community of Houston, Mr. Gutierrez participated in TMSL’s Immigration Clinic focusing on the areas of Asylum, family-based immigration, and naturalization matters.

After graduation and acceptance to the Texas Bar, Mr. Gutierrez accepted an associate attorney position at Sullins, Johnston Rohrbach& Magers. His practice areas include immigration, personal injury, commercial and general civil matters, formation and operation of business entities, and debt collection.
